Once Teams is connected, you don't have to wait for someone to message you first - you can initiate the conversation from Slack.
Start a 1:1 DM
There are three ways to do it. Pick whichever feels natural.
From "Find Teams Users"
Open the convly Slack app, click "Find Teams Users", search for the person, then "..." → "Send DM". Write your message and hit send. A matching Slack channel is created automatically and the message lands on the Teams side within seconds.
From a hybrid channel
In any synced Slack/Teams channel, type /convly and pick a user from the popup. Click "..." → "Send DM" and send your message.
From the Conversations tab
Open the convly app, go to "Conversations", select a conversation, click "Users", choose a person, then "..." → "Send DM".
Create a Teams group chat
You can spin up a Teams group chat from Slack in a few steps:
- In the convly app, open "Conversations" → "Create new".
- Search and add the Teams users you want to include.
- Set a channel name (this is what they'll see on the Teams side).
- Type the first message.
- Click "Create".
A mirrored Slack channel appears immediately so the conversation works the same way on both sides.
What gets synced
Every DM and group chat created this way carries reactions, edits, deletes, file shares, and threaded replies across both platforms. The full feature matrix is in the "What is synced between Slack and Teams" table on the home page.
