To @mention a Teams user from Slack, that Teams user's mention has to be registered first. It's a one-time setup per user. There are two ways to do it.
Option A — From a hybrid channel using /convly
- In a hybrid Slack channel, type
/convly. - Find the Teams user you want to register in the popup.
- Click the
...next to their name. - Select Create mention.
That's it - from now on, typing @ followed by their name in any hybrid channel will produce a real mention on the Teams side.
Option B — From the convly Slack app
- Open the convly app in Slack.
- Go to the Find Teams user section.
- Search for the Teams user you want.
- Click
...next to the right user. - Select Create mention.
Same outcome - their mention is now available across hybrid channels.
Things to know
- You only need to do this once per Teams user.
- Mentions of Slack users from Teams don't need any setup - it just works.
- If you mention a Teams user whose mention hasn't been registered yet, the message still goes through, but it lands as plain text on the Teams side instead of a real mention.
