"May the fourth", isn't that a great date to announce a new official version? 🙂
It's indeed official: convly is no longer in beta as of today, and it comes with some great new features that you've been asking for.
Ready? Let's discover them below.
Reactions
The first highly demanded feature is reactions - all those emojis that offer a concise and expressive way to react to a message: ❤️ 👍 🙏 😊 being the most popular.
How does it work in convly?
-
Slack to Teams
Slack users can react to any Teams-originated message just like they would with any regular Slack message - they then appear as standard reactions in Teams.
The only current limitation is that only one reaction can be sent per Slack user for a Teams message: if multiple emojis are used, only the most recent one will be visible in Teams. -
Teams to Slack
Teams users can also react to any Slack-originated message as usual, and those reactions are then visible in Slack.
On the Slack side, Teams-originated reactions are displayed in a specific way, which you can see in the below video.
Mentions
The 2nd most demanded feature is mentions - tagging someone in a message using "@", like @MichaelScott 😉
Mentions are now available in convly across Slack and Teams.
-
Slack to Teams
If a Slack user wants to mention a Teams user who isn't present in Slack, they can do so normally in Slack, and the mention will appear as expected in Teams*.
💡 Note:@here/@channelare converted to@everyonein Teams. -
Teams to Slack
If a Teams user wants to mention a Slack user, it works as usual in Teams, and the mention will appear normally in Slack.
The other case is a Teams user mentioning another Teams user - in Teams it works as standard. In Slack, the mentioned user will also appear correctly — as long as their mention has been previously created*.
💡 Note:@everyoneis converted to@channelin Slack.
* To create a Teams user mention in Slack, you can either type /convly in a hybrid channel, or look the user up in the "Find Teams user" section of the convly Slack app, then click "..." next to the desired Teams user and select "Create mention".
💡 Note: Make sure the permission "Create and edit user groups" is granted at the "Member" level.
See the video below for more details.
User sync
User sync is very useful to make sure that within a hybrid channel, Slack and Teams users are always aligned.
With this new feature, here's what's managed:
| Trigger | convly automated action |
|---|---|
| A Slack user is added to a hybrid channel, from Slack | The same user is added on the Teams* side |
| A Teams user is added to a hybrid channel, from Teams | The same user is added on the Slack* side |
| A Slack user is removed from a hybrid channel (or leaves) | The same user is removed from the Teams* side |
| A Teams user is removed from a hybrid channel (or leaves) | The same user is removed from the Slack* side |
* as long as this user has a convly-synced Teams account.
See the video below for more details.
Existing Slack channel sync to Teams (new method)
We've introduced a new and faster way to sync an existing Slack channel with Teams.
Now all you need to do is the following:
- Type
/convlyin an existing Slack channel. - Search for the Teams user(s) you'd like to add.
- Type a message.
- Click "Sync" - and you're done!
